Cunning, deceitful, and highly intelligent, The Necromancer is the most powerful—and dangerous dark magic practitioner of all. Not only is he cruel and manipulative, he has a twisted sense of humor and relishes toying with his enemies. A villain through and through, but was he always this way?
A very long time ago, Sylvain attended a prestigious magic school that taught light magic. He never quite fit in with his peers because of his eccentric personality and sensitivity. He was picked on not only for this but also for his unusual crow-like attributes. In spite of this, one of his classmates, another highly talented mage-in-training, stuck up for him and eventually became his one and only friend.
The encouragement Sylvain’s friend gave to him to take his studies seriously and he began researching the form of magic that intrigued him the most, dark magic. Brilliant as he was, the dubious nature of his studies was met with disapproval and he was removed from the academy, his research materials confiscated and locked away.
Following his expulsion, heartbroken by the loss of his research, Sylvain began to double down on the poor reputation he had developed, continuing to develop more potent forms of dark magic and often getting into trouble with the law. In spite of this, his friend, who had since graduated at the top of his class and secured a job in the capital, was always there to make excuses for him. Years passed, and with a career and a family, Sylvain’s friend had less and less time for him. Motivated by loneliness and knowing it was a surefire way to catch his friend’s attention, Sylvain escalated his behavior and eventually became notorious for breaking the law, making many enemies in the process.
After an accident took the life of his one and only friend, motivated by grief, Sylvain began tirelessly working on developing a never-before-seen technique, the perfect resurrection, but it was easier said than done. It took numerous experiments on both the dead and living, some with unspeakable results, but he succeeded in bringing his friend back to life, flawlessly. However, Sylvain’s friend was horrified after learning of the countless sacrifices and the harm inflicted to bring him back and fled, informing the capital of his actions. Rather than facing execution, Sylvain was to be locked in his tower for one thousand years, sealed with a curse.
Well over a century has passed and Sylvain’s name has long been forgotten, though, talk of The Necromancer that lives in the tower in the woods have persisted, and nobody who has ventured inside by chance or with the intention of taking his life has ever returned. Regardless of whether trespassers succumbed to the tower’s threats or were destroyed by his own hands, the outcome is the same, they are resurrected, but not without being greatly altered and forced to remain trapped in his tower with him. Whether this is for the sake of research or his own amusement remains to be seen.
Oddly enough, Sylvain seems to think of his prisoners as his friends, when he's not poking fun at them, he comes across as overly friendly. Occasionally he may invite them to dinner or holiday festivities but is usually met with caution and skepticism of his intentions. When it comes to particular residents of the tower, he may even go out of his way to keep them happy.
